Expecting Parents

Please allow us to be among the first to offer our congratulations on the birth of your baby! The birth of a baby is an exciting and rewarding time. Let us help you set your mind at ease when it comes to the care your newest family member.

Prenatal visits

Prenatal visits can be a great way to get a sneak peek into what to expect in the weeks (and years!) to come with regards to your child’s healthcare. Though not a requirement to be accepted into our practice, these visits typically serve as a way to meet and get to know your future pediatrician and familiarize yourself with office policies. Also, we welcome the chance to get to know you and believe that the relationship between your pediatrician and your growing family is the key to a healthy baby. If you would like a prenatal visit, please call 626-449-8440 to schedule an appointment.

Hospital affiliations

All physicians admit and attend newborns at Huntington Memorial Hospital. Infants born at other hospitals are welcome to establish after discharge from the hospital where they delivered.

Registration

It is not necessary to register with us before your baby is born. On admission, simply give the staff at Huntington Memorial Hospital the name of the pediatrician you have chosen. You do not need to do anything else. However, if you would like to save time later, you may download and print our new patient forms at your convenience.

Birth plans

Birth plans can be a wonderful way think about what’s important to you in the care and delivery of your child. We will work with you to accommodate any requests or preferences you may have. Of course, your child’s health and safety is our priority and, at times, we are forced to adapt to unanticipated circumstances. Please don’t hesitate to discuss any specific plans or concerns you may have at your prenatal visit, we always welcome open discussion.

At delivery

All newborns are examined within 24 hours of birth. In most cases, the initial examination will be by your doctor. Because the doctors in the group share hospital call, it is possible that your baby might be examined by another member of our group.

First office visit after leaving the hospital

In general, most infants are seen in the office one to three days after hospital discharge. The timing of your baby’s first visit will depend on the baby’s weight, method of delivery, jaundice as well as other variables. Your doctor will let you know when you should follow upon discharge from the hospital.

Contacting our office after discharge

To make an appointment after hospital discharge, call 626-449-8440. Press "2" when the voice mail begins to be connected to the receptionist. The receptionist is available to schedule appointments from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and then again from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tell the receptionist that your baby needs a “newborn hospital discharge appointment,” and she will make the necessary arrangements. If you have not yet done so, please download and complete the new patient forms prior to your appointment, and bring the completed forms with you.

Birth certificate

The hospital will complete the necessary paperwork in order for you to receive both your baby’s birth certificate as well as his/her social security number. It usually takes several weeks for this information to arrive. If you have questions about your baby’s birth certificate or social security number, please contact City Hall Department of Vital Records at 626-744-6009.

Insurance

It is vital that you inform your insurer of the birth of your baby, and that you further ensure that your insurer processes the correct information. Make sure your insurer has both the correct spelling of your baby’s name as well as your baby’s correct birth date. We strongly recommend checking with your employer’s human resource department weekly until you are confident that your insurer has the information they require and that it is accurate.
